Máté Bereczki appointed as Event Director for the World Championships

The host club, Veszprémi Honvéd SE, has appointed Máté Bereczki, the current head coach of the Hungarian junior national team, to lead the technical management of the World Championships.
“I accepted the invitation from the Veszprém team with great pleasure, but at the same time, I know exactly that the World Championships can only be successful if a great team works together – said Máté Bereczki. – In the coming months, I will also strive to establish the workflow and find the individuals who will guarantee productive results. Naturally, my priority this year remains the performance of the junior national team, but from next year onwards, I will focus on this new challenge.”
“I know the moment will come when organizing will fill almost 24 hours of my day, but I owe so much to orienteering—lifelong friendships, my partner—so I am starting this work with responsibility and motivation. I trust that the entire Hungarian orienteering community will benefit from this event.” added the Event Director.
The 35-year-old sports leader from Szeged represented Hungary on several occasions at international youth competitions. Regarding his competitive career, he is primarily proud of his domestic success: in addition to numerous relay and team titles, he won every possible individual Hungarian national title between the ages of 16 and 20. When he retired from elite sports, his intensive training was replaced by sports management and coaching.
Over the past ten years, he has earned the recognition of the orienteering community through his work as an event organizer and course setter, as well as his professional contributions to both the senior and junior national teams. With his appointment, the World Championships organizing team is strengthened by a young yet experienced sports leader.
